While waiting in a long queue at the supermarket, you realise that you have forgotten to get something you need to make dinner. It will only take you a minute to pick it up and you don't fancy the idea of returning to the end of the queue, so you turn to the person behind you and politely request:

Could you hold my place, please? I've forgotten to get something.

This queue is horrible! Why is everybody shopping at this time?

Could you possibly let me go in front of you? I'm late for dinner.

Do you need anything else? I'm going to get some more biscuits.

Would you mind getting me some cheese from the dairy section?
