out-of-character, has really been rather rude to one of the senior members. You feel he ought
to apologise though really he isn’t to blame. You say:

It really was most unfortunate, but I do think it would be best if you tried to smooth out the
situation.

You are always speaking out-of-turn like this and you’d better cure the habit.

We all know he’s an old fool, but it doesn’t give you the right to tell him so to his face.

What he said was quite unforgivable. You did right to say so.

The situation is hardly likely to improve even if you do apologize to him.
