nominated for the Nobel Prize in economics. You feel thrilled for him and call him immediately
to congratulate him. He tells you that he doesn’t expect to receive the prize because there will,
almost certainly, be other candidates better than him. Thereupon, to encourage him, you say:

You are probably right. You’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

True. And after all one never knows how much the issue is affected by politics.

If I were you, I’d not raise my hopes too high.

Surely you are one of the leading economists in the world and have as much chance as any one
else.
