You and your young son, Peter, are
visiting your elderly aunt. She is
out of the room when your son
accidentally breaks a vase. Knowing
that your aunt will probably be very cross
with your son, you decide to
take the blame yourself, and say to her :

It was very careless of me — let me
buy you a new one.

Don't worry I'm sure it wasn't very
expensive.

It wasn't Peter's fault. The vase
was too near the edge of the table.

I didn't mean to let Peter break it
so please don't be angry with him.

Children are often clumsy at
Peter's age but they can't help it.
