a busy social life instead of studying.
Now he has just learnt that he has
failed the exam. When your mother tells
you this, you respond
unsympathetically, saying:

It serves him right. He shouldn't
have gone to that party the night
before the exam.

I can't believe he's failed. He was so
well prepared before he took the
exam.

What a shame! He is so clever that
I'm sure he could have passed the
exam easily.

I hope he isn't feeling too bad about
it. Exams aren't the most important
things in life.

I feel really sorry for him, even
though I know he should have
worked much harder.
