(I) Several months ago the Czech finance minister announced that his country’s four
biggest banks would shortly be privatised. (II) Even so a poll showed that nearly half of the
Czech people opposed the new interests rates in the country. (III) Since then, however, there
has been a change of government which naturally slowed down proceedings. (IV) Moreover, a
row over the value of one of the banks has further delayed the matter. (V) So has a recent
startling revelation concerning loan policies in one of the banks.
